Building Import and Export templates is key to making your life easier when you have daily files to import and export. Using a template will allow you to map your values once and apply that to all future imports and exports that share that layout.

To access the Import/Export templates, follow the steps below.

Click on Data + Automations, Import/Export, then Templates.

Click on Data + Automations, Import/Export, then Templates.

Select and existing template or click on the blue button in the top right to create a new template. You're now on the Template Builder page, which should look familiar if you've ran any imports or exports previously.

From this screen, you can:

  • Select Template: You can build your template based on another already built template if they are similar.

  • Save Template As: If you would like to save this template for future use, but continue to modify it, you can save it as a new template.

  • Header Checkbox: Do you want to import the first row or is that data column headers?

  • Who should be imported: You can select to Import only new people, Update existing records, or Update existing and Import new.

The last button on this screen is where you start adding columns to build template. Click on Add Column to begin.

To create a template based on an existing template, click on Select Template. Otherwise, skip this step and go to "To map columns".

Click on Select Template.

Then select the column template, then done. From this point, building your template is almost identical to building an import or export with one minor difference - you can select multiple fields from the standard fields option when adding.

Then select the column template, then done.

The template saves on its own, so when you're done, feel free to exit and use the templates when setting up imports.

To map columns, click Add Column at the bottom of the page.

Building an Export Template is similar to the process we just walked through. Β From the Export Template screen, you are able to:

  • Select Template: You can build your template based on another already built template if they are similar.

  • Save Template As: If you would like to save this template for future use, but continue to modify it, you can save it as a new template.

  • Header Checkbox: Upon export, do you want the first column to contain headers?

Finally, you have the option to Add Column. By selecting add column, it brings up the same file builder you used for the Import Template.
