What are Document Types?

Document "Types" are what allow Element 451 to identify which types of documents are needed throughout your instance. Β 

πŸ’‘Pro tip: Without a Document Type, documents won't be able to be viewed on the user profile.

Document Types are a critical part of the Decisions module. Any document that you wish to display on an applicants document page there will need to have a document type.

Add a New Document Type

We'll want to create document types for each type of document we want to collect. After a document is created, it will be available to select from the Type list when manually uploading documents.

To add a new document type, navigate to Data + Automations, Documents, then Document Types.

In Document Types, select the blue button in the bottom right corner to add a new type.

From the Document Types screen, select the blue button in the bottom right corner to add a new type.

Complete the fields in General tab and select an icon from the Icon tab.

Create a Custom Field for Your New Document Type

In this example, we've just created a new Document Type. Now, we want students to be able to upload documents of this new Type. To do that, we'll need to create a Custom Field where those documents will be mapped to.

To create a Custom Field, add a new document type to a custom field, navigate to Field Management. Learn more about the Field Management module.

To add the new document type to custom fields, navigate to Field Management.

Select Custom Fields, then click the blue button in the bottom right corner to add a new field.

Choose the type of custom field. In this case, we'll use the "Upload" type.

Once your field is set, you can add it anywhere in Element you would like someone to upload that type of document.
