Filters: All + Any Operators

Learn about the difference between "any" and "all" operators to easily create segments.

Overview

When adding two or more filters to your People list, all and any operators will populate for you to add inclusive or exclusive advanced segment filtering.


All Operator

With "ALL" (the AND operator), you're specifying that all conditions must be met. It's like saying, "Show me users who match ALL of these criteria."


In the example below, any user who is a prospect AND has the label "Complete FAFSA" will be added to the segment.


Any Operator

With "ANY" (the OR operator), you're casting a wider net. It's like saying, "Show me users who match ANY of these criteria."

In the next example below, a user that is a prospect OR has the label "Complete FAFSA" will be applied to the segment.


Using Any + All Operators Together

​In the example and illustration below, we're leveraging both the ANY and ALL operators.

The ANY operator is being used for the main filter group, which is represented by the large rectangle (highlighted in orange). Therefore, in order to be added to the segment, a user only needs to meet one of three filter groups (outlined in purple, blue, and green).

Here is how each filter group reads:

  • Any user that is a prospect (outlined in purple)

  • Any user that is a suspect AND has opened emails 3+ times (outlined in blue)

  • Any user that is a suspect AND has a date of last SMS click (outlined in green)

For the blue and green filter groups, you'll notice that the ALL operator is being used. This means for a user to match one of those groups, they must meet all the criteria within that group.

In summary, users will be added to your segment if they meet at least one of the criteria outlined in the purple, blue, or green filter groups.
